BLACK MOON THEATRE COMPANY HISTORY

BLACK MOON THEATRE COMPANY (BMTC) was launched in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, in March 2001.

As BMTC's creative architect, Artistic Director Rene Migliaccio creates all of his own adaptations from plays and novels so that the texts mesh with expressionistic realism techniques.

During BMTC's first year, 2001, the company produced: Goldoni's The Servant of Two Masters, which was performed at three different locations in Greenpoint, and which was supported by financial and in-kind support from local businesses; and Euripides' The Bakkhai, which ran at the HERE Arts Center in Soho. In 2002, BMTC produced The Madman and the Nun by Stanislaw Witkiewicz, with the support of The Polish and Slavic Federal Credit Union, and was performed at the Polish and Slavic Center, in Greenpoint. In 2003-2004, BMTC also produced The Metamorphosis by Kafka, which performed at The NY International Fringe Festival, The Philadelphia International Fringe Festival, and at LaMama Etc, in Manhattan. In 2005, the production then traveled in Europe in venues such as Edinburgh International Fringe Festival and The Prague International Fringe Festival, as well as touring the UK and Germany. In 2006, The Company presented Kafka's Series: The Trial and The Metamorphosis at TeatroLaTea, NY. In 2009, Black Moon produced two new multi-media works: Dante's Divina Commedia Inferno and Fragments. After a critically acclaimed run at 2009 New York International Fringe Festival, Dante's Divina Commedia Inferno production is touring Europe in 2010, including Prague Festival. Fragments opened in may 2009 during IATI 2nd Annual Performing Arts Marathon, in New York. The production is scheduled to be performed in Cordoba, Argentina in the Fall of 2010.

BLACK MOON THEATRE COMPANY MISSION

Black Moon Theatre Company brings together the mediums of acting, non-Western dance techniques, visual arts, and music with the use of classical texts from Greek tragedies to modern drama and comedy, poetry, and novels. The multi-media work of Black Moon Theatre Company has been described as a "text book example of how to blend live performance and film."

Dedicated to the on-going research and use of "Expressionistic Realism", the Artistic Director Rene Migliaccio's original performance signature style of gesture, mask, and movement, Black Moon Theatre Company believes the audience can be made open to experiencing the performance as a ritual act of purification.

Black Moon Theatre Company collaborates with national and international artists in the exploration of new forms of expression, to challenge the boundaries of gender and cultural differences, and to create a universal language that brings the ethnically diverse audience and artists to a common experience.
